Two-Rotor Compressor
The two-rotor compressor at the outdoor unit of the split air—conditioner reduces vibration a lot. Two rotors balance each other; thus vibration is reduced. Low noise level of the outdoor unit and no vibration are very important when air-conditioners are installed in standard panel buildings; noise will not trouble your neighbours. In general, such compressors are used for the latest air-conditioners inverter-driven.

3-section heat exchanger
3-section heat exchanger is used in the latest models by Panasonic. The more heat exchange area, the higher cooling and heating capacities of the unit are. Due to the three-plane structure, the surface area was increased by maximum use of existing confined area. The result is a package air-conditioner with higher efficiency.

Automatic change of air-flow direction.
It is a special operation mode of the air-conditioner changing air-flow direction subject to a current operation mode.
Practically, in cooling mode of operation cold airflow is directed horizontally. Afterwards the airflow goes up as cold air density is higher than density of warm air. Uniform mixing of indoor air is provided by natural convection ensuring fast, efficient and free-draught cooling of the room. Besides, difference between ceiling and floor air temperatures that can result in chills is eliminated. In heating operation mode the airflow goes down. Uniform mixing of indoor air (i.e. uniform free-draught heating) is provided by natural convection too.

Auto Changeover .
Special operation mode of the air-conditioner.
Sensing elements take indoor and outdoor temperatures at regular intervals. Based on the temperature results and temperature set, a microcomputer selects the most suitable operation mode meeting existing conditions. It eliminates the need of manual adjustment of the operation mode as outdoor temperature changes. The computer maintains the temperature set automatically providing maximum comfort to you. For the majority of air-conditioners the user can set temperature required which will be maintained, some models of the air-conditioners have comfort temperature (as a rule, +20°Ñ) set already and it can’t be changed.

Auto Swing
Additional function of the air-conditioner to improve distribution of airflow in the room. If it is available, air distribution shutters start oscillating movements distributing cooled or heated air uniformly in the room. For the majority of up-to-date split systems shutters can be fixed in any position required using a remote control. Auto swing is provided in many air-conditioners of different types.

Blue Fin.
Special treatment systems for heat exchangers of Panasonic air-conditioners. Efficiency of any air-conditioning system to a great extent depends on the heat exchanger used that is subject to adverse influence by salt-saturated air, wind, dust and other factors initiating corrosion. Panasonic’s engineers increased life-cycles of heat exchangers thrice by applying anti-corrosion coating to heat exchangers’ surfaces. The anti-corrosion coating method ensures many years of reliable operation of your air-conditioner and saves your money. Life-cycles of heat exchangers increased three times. Tests carried out by Matsushita Air Conditioning R&D Centre Sdn. Bhd., Research Center, and the Independent Authorized Institute in Malaysia, proved that condenser’s lifetime increases thrice. Blue Fin coating ensures that your air-conditioner will operate failure-free for much more years.

Inverter.
Inverter is used to control compressor capacities of some air-conditioners. What is the inverter?
For the inverter air-conditioner inverter electric circuit (inverter, in fact) is used to convert alternating current into direct one and vice versa. During the second conversion process voltage and frequency change and that ensures easy adjustment of compressor speed and, accordingly, cooling or heating rate of the air-conditioner. Due to this technology, air-conditioners with inverter are more efficient and produce less noise as against air-conditioners with standard compressors.
Accurate temperature maintenance. When the temperature set by the user is achieved, the air-conditioner with inverter doesn’t stop operation but decrease cooling/heating efficiency operating at low speed. In such a mode the air-conditioner can maintain indoor air temperature accurately (±0.5°Ñ of the temperature set) and practically operates quietly.
Fast cooling. To achieve the temperature set, the air-conditioner with inverter operates at full load (which is more than a load of the similar air-conditioner of standard type) and cools or heats indoor air faster (to about 15%).
Considerable energy saving. To maintain the temperature set, the standard air-conditioner starts and stops operation at regular intervals and the inverter air-conditioner operates continuously at rating required to maintain the temperature. Due to such operation method, to maintain indoor temperature, the inverter air-conditioner requires power supply 44% less than it is required for the standard air-conditioner.
Long lifetime of compressor. The compressor driven by the inverter can operate in both forced mode (actual rating is higher than nominal rating, it means that it takes less time to cool the room) and minimal mode maintaining indoor temperature accurately. As the compressor operates without stops, it is always warm and therefore it is not subject to icing, it wears out to a lesser extent and operates rather quiet. (Compressor’s wear is the highest when the it’s started-up.).

DeIce (outdoor unit deicing).
Deicing of the split-system outdoor unit (in winter period). It is required to remove hoarfrost from the outdoor heat exchanger (outdoor unit). When outdoor temperature sinks to 5°Ñ, evaporation temperature of the outdoor unit is below 0°Ñ. As a result, air moisture precipitates to the heat exchanger as hoarfrost. If hoarfrost is not removed, it will accumulate more and more and then airflow passing through the heat exchanger will stop. It means that heat will not be supplied from the outdoor unit.
How is the system deiced? Deicing by return. The air-conditioner switches from heating to cooling mode. As a result, warm gaseous refrigerant goes through the outdoor heat exchanger covered with hoarfrost to remove it. Continuous deicing. In heating mode a little warm gaseous refrigerant goes from the compressor through the outdoor unit.
Automatic fan speed control.
Special operation mode of the air-conditioner. Some types of air-conditioners can change fan speed automatically subject to the air temperature set and actual indoor air temperature. If the difference between the indoor air temperature and temperature to be maintained by the air-conditioner is not too much, the air-conditioner doesn’t operate at full load. Fan speed decreases ensuring rather quiet operation and no draughts. If the indoor air temperature differs from the air temperature set, the fan starts operation at higher load. Generally, three speeds are available: low, medium and high.
Heat Pump.
Power-saving heating mode which is used practically for all the types of air-conditioners. If the mode is used, 1 kW of supplied power ensures 3 kW heat provided by the air-conditioner.
Even if the outdoor temperature is not too high, the evaporation temperature of the heat exchanger is less. In particular, the gradient of (difference between) the temperatures ensures supply of heat from the outdoor air indoors. However, the less the outdoor temperature is, the more difficult is to take heat from outdoor air. In other words, heating efficiency decreases when the outdoor temperature goes down. Therefore, it is not recommended to use the air-conditioner in a heating mode when the outdoor temperature is less than –5°Ñ: power consumption increases, cooling capacity decreases and compressor’s wear rate increases.

ECO Inverter.
Range of SHARP wall air-conditioners with inverter drive. Advantages of the inverter drive are world-known. They include considerable energy saving, longer durability of inverters, ability to achieve the parameters required shortly quickly and low temperature stability.
New ECO-Inverter has bigger EER (energy-saving) factor and cools rooms 116% faster than typical air-conditioners with inverters. .

Gold Fin.
Special surface coating of the outdoor unit heat exchangers of wall air-conditioners LG Jet Cool Gold and heat exchangers of window air-conditioners manufactured by LG. Gold Fin is a gold coating of outdoor unit heat exchangers (or heat exchangers of window air-conditioners) increasing their corrosion resistance. Therefore, Gold Fin air-conditioners are recommended for maritime climate areas.

Jet Cool.
Forced cooling mode of LG Electronics air-conditioners. All the air-conditioners produced by the above company after 2000 have this function. Operating in the mode, the air-conditioner produces cold airflow within 30 minutes or untill the temperature reaches 18°Ñ.

Fireplace effect.
Peculiar features of Dragon and Rapido oil-filled radiators manufactured by DeLonghi Company ensuring that a room is heated two times as fast as against standard radiators. Special thermal slots located on both sides of the radiator produce the so-called “fireplace” effect (in other words, draught). Indoor air goes through the radiator, is heated and goes upwards, that ensures continuous indoor air convection. Due to high airflow rate, uniform heating of the room is provided.

Luminous Remote Controller.
Luminous (phosphorescent) remote controllers for new wall air-conditioners by Panasonic. Due to luminous buttons, you can easily find and use the remote controller in the dark. Natural luminous material is used for the remote controllers and that is why you do not need any batteries. Moreover, frequent-use buttons are bigger than other ones and can be easily found and pressed.
The luminous material absorbs light from electric lamps or sunlight and afterwards it emits the light in the dark. The buttons are lighted about 6 hours after they have been exposed to 400 lux light (that is equivalent to light levels of standard offices) for 20 minutes.
Luminance of the buttons is equal or a bit higher than 0.3 mcd/sq.m, that is minimum light level for unaided eyes (that factor may be changed slightly subject to individual sensibility of eyes).

Instant noise-free heating.
Instant Heat System is a special innovation technique by DeLonghi. Every radiator element us designed to provide maximum convection and big heat emission area. Due to pyramid-like shape and convection channels, the radiator can transfer and heat much air mixing warm indoor air uniformly.
A unique function is instant noise-free heating.
The function of instant noise-free heating (Instant Heat System) combines two independent heating systems. To achieve the thermostat-set temperature, Rapido requires time half as much is required for a standard oil-filled radiator.

Dry mode.
Special operation mode of air-conditioners. In the dry mode the air humidity decreases, the indoor temperature remains at the same level. Actually, the air becomes dry and cool due to the evaporator, afterwards it is heated to the previous temperature level without humidification. Different manufactures give different names to this function, e.g. a name given by LG is Healthy Dehumidification.

Magic Display.
A display at the indoor units of SHARP ECO Inverter wall air-conditioners.
The display shows the current operation mode, time, and indoor and outdoor temperatures. Power indicator on the display shows ratings achieved by the air-conditioner: energy-saving mode, medium rating or maximum power mode.

PLASMA Air Purifying System.
Unique multi-staged filtration system in LG Electronics air-conditioners.
The air purifying system removes not only dust but blossom dust and odor nuisance. This is provided by intense air ionization under 4.8 kV and subsequent partial discharge through the catalyst. Allergens are removed too.

  • Ionizing discharge
  • Catalyst screen
  • Protective screen

Filter cleaning is scarcely required. This unique air purifying system cleans air effectively and scarcely requires filter cleaning. You can enjoy clean air without any problems, you should just wash the filter with water two times a year.
The filtration system is very effective. Even small particles of 0.01 microns are filtered. Efficiency of the filter was tested by Korean Food Research Institute, Japanese Environmental Centre and Yonsei Univ. College of Medicine (Allergy Research Lab). The diagrams show Natural air purification (natural decrease of air pollution by deposition of contaminants onto walls, etc.) and LG Plasma system (decrease of air pollution by LG flitration system).

Real Energy.
Patented configuration of thermal slots of DeLonghi oil-filled radiators.
The world-patented special configuration of thermal slots of DeLonghi radiators provides extremely high heating rate, however, maximum surface temperature doesn’t change.
"Real Energy" oil-filled radiators by DeLonghi heat a room faster and provide higher air temperature. Maximum air temperature is, at least, 20% higher than that of standard oil-filled radiators.
This process does not break the energy conservation law. The point is that the radiators have the special configuration of thermal slots promoting fast air heating due to higher convection.
It means that such radiators do not overheat while operating and mix the indoor air fast. Convection rate of a standard radiator is low, it overheats at regular intervals and is switched off by its thermostat; as a result it’s operating time is less.

Smart Sense.
Smart Sense is an additional thermostat at the remote control and a control system General Electric air-conditioners. Generally, Smart Sense (as specified by General Electric) is a range of technological innovations that ensure for wall air-conditioners of this brand accurate measurement of the indoor temperature and maintenance of the temperature set by the user. Smart Sense consists of 3 main components:

  • Additional remote control thermostat
  • Improved microprocessor
  • Smart Sense Turbo heat exchanger

Smart Sense Turbo is a new heat exchanger in General Electric air-conditioners or wall split-systems. Key feature of the heat exchanger is increased surface area providing fast cooling or heating of the room by the air-conditioner. Smart Sense name is used to denote the improved control system of the air-conditioner and, if combined with Smart Sense Turbo, the maximum operation mode of the air-conditioner.

Seagull Wing fan.
Special structure of the outdoor unit fan for some types of wall air-conditioners by Panasonic.
To ensure more efficient air supply, a principle of a bird’s wing is used for new curved blades to control airflow. Holes on the blade surfaces minimize flow turbulence, that results in noise-free operation of the fan.

3 power levels
High, medium and energy-saving operation modes of the air-conditioner. In addition to normal mode (nominal power) 2 additional modes are used: high power and energy-saving modes. The 3 modes make indoor temperature adjustment more flexible. For example, you come home one hot day. You press Powerful button and cold (warm) air goes out to provide comfort conditions for you shortly. For example, in the cooling mode the temperature decreases 3 degrees, the airflow will become maximum intense and it will be directed slightly downward for 15 minutes and during this period maximum cooling will be provided. It is very convenient, if you just come home or if guests come to you and you need to adjust the indoor temperature to have comfort environment. When a child or elderly person is in the room, the temperature should be adjusted gradually. In Economy mode power consumption decreases to about 25% as against the normal mode. Use the mode in case of existing comfort environment when neither intense cooling nor heating is required. For example, in the cooling mode the air-conditioner decreases the temperature to 0.5 degrees only and the airflow switches to smooth swinging from side to side.

 

CHAOS Swing.
Special airflow mode for LG Electronics air-conditioners.
The most comfortable airflow for people is natural wind. Wide studies by LG Electronics resulted in application of a new theory, CHAOS, to the latest split air-conditioners. They provide the airflow like fresh wind wafts. Moreover, the system has additional advantages: difference in ceiling and floor indoor temperatures decreases, cooling time decreases to 14%; distance of the airflow increases to about 80%.

Catechin filter.
New catechin filter absorbs small dust particles, tobacco smoke and other standard air pollutants and catches and deactivates microscopic viruses and bacteria. Catechin is a natural anti-virus and antibacterial agent. It can neutralize viruses and bacteria preventing spread of infectious diseases.

Microscopic particles up to 1 micron are removed with static electricity from air supplied. The catechin coating applied to the filter deactivates viruses and bacteria and prevents spread of infectious diseases. Deodorizing filter
Catechin filter absorbs any odourous substances using chemicals.

Automatic humidity control.
Special function of ultrasonic air humidifiers.
Automatic humidity control humidifier is equipped with a humidity sensor and special controller or humidistat. Due to the above devices, the instrument can keep indoor humidity level set. When other types of humidifiers are used, high-efficiency steam humidifiers in particular, special external instruments are used to control humidity.
Autorestart.
Additional function of the air-conditioner: recovery of operation mode after power failure. The air-conditioner having this function restarts operation automatically after interruption. To prevent overload, some air-conditioners are started not immediately but after a short period of time (3-5 minutes). Such improvement is called arbitrary automatic restart.
Fast cooling.
This is a special air-conditioner mode providing fast indoor cooling. Different manufactures give different names to the function, e.g. Jet Cool by LG.
in this mode the air-conditioner produces an intense cool air jet during 30 minutes (or any other time, it depends on a manufacturer and model used) or until the temperature reaches 18°Ñ.

No Aging Fin.
New heat-exchanger of indoor units of wall air-conditioners by LG. "Plasma Treated Heat Exchanger". Due to surface treatment with plasma, the heat exchanger is nearly “eternal”, i.e. no cleaning and maintenance is required during the air-conditioner’s life time. In addition, the heat-exchanger’s surface doesn’t accumulate any moisture and that reduces noise produced by the indoor unit of the air-conditioner.
Cooling capacity of the air-conditioner doesn’t decrease in the course of time.
Generally, water drops condensing from air coming through the air-conditioner accumulate on a standard heat exchanger. It results in corrosion and gradual decrease in heat emission. The process is similar to scaling in a kettle. Afterwards when the water drops dry up, mineral matters and other contaminants accumulate on the surface gradually and form a layer that decreases heat conductivity. If the heat-exchanger’s surface is treated in a special way to prevent accumulation of the water drops, no corrosion is caused by precipitations. That is a distinguishing feature of No Aging Fin heat exchanger which is equally efficient during the whole life time of the air-conditioner.

Sleep Mode.
Special operation mode of the air-conditioners ensuring comfortable sleep.
"Sleep Mode" or sleep timer develops ideal rest conditions. When a sleep mode button is pressed, the indoor unit fan switches to lower speed to reduce noise and temperature goes down (in heating mode) or up (in cooling mode) 2 degrees gradually and is maintained as such within a timer-set period and afterwards the air-conditioner stops operation.
An example of air-conditioner’s operation in such a mode is given above (wall split-system by Panasonic). It is activated when Sleep button (different manufacturers give different names to the function) on a remote control is pressed.

Additional thermostat.
Temperature control by two thermostats is used to determine current indoor air temperature precisely.
Air temperature measured on the indoor unit of the air-conditioner may differ from actual indoor air temperature considerable. To measure the current temperature more precisely and accordingly to maintain the temperature set by the user, two thermostats are used: one at the indoor unit of the air-conditioner and one at the remote control panel. To select any operation mode, a microprocessor controlling the air-conditioner uses both readings provided by the two thermostats thus providing higher comfort in control and accurate maintenance of the indoor air temperature.
Deodorizing.
Special function of wall-mounted air-conditioners by Panasonic. Panasonic air-conditioners do not produce any odour when switched on. The reason for this is that the fan doesn’t start operation for some time while a source of odour inside the air-conditioner is being neutralized. During this stage the air-conditioner should operate in the cooling (Cool) or drying (Dry) mode and the fan speed should be controlled automatically. Deodorizing consists of the following stages:

  • The heat exchanger starts cooling
  • Moisture accumulates on the heat exchanger
  • Odouring particles are washed off with water drops and are drained
  • The fan starts operation. Clean, free-odour air is supplied to the room.

Individual airflow.
It is an extremely flexible system of airflow control for wall-mounted inverter-driven air-conditioners by Panasonic (ECO Power Inverter range). If required, you can combine wide range of vertical and horizontal airflow control patterns to create the most comfortable conditions; use your remote control to select one of the five airflow intensity levels provided or select Auto mode and the microprocessor will do everything required itself.

  • Up-Down - 5 typical patterns + Auto.
  • Left-Right - 7 typical patterns + Auto.
  • Airflow volume - 5 levels + Auto.
